OpenRefine 2024 Barcamp: Strategizing OpenRefine Roadmap

@thadguidry thanks for your patience I just published the results for the feature ranking here Results from the Feature Prioritization Survey 2024. Goal posts should be extracted from the list of links shared previously.

Regarding the goal post formalization, it got pushed aside by another project on my side (Wikimedia grant application, governance discussion mostly). My next priorities are listed here.

I don't think the GitHub project is the appropriate format to represent them, as it goes beyond linking issues together (maybe I am missing something about GitHub projects). What I was looking for is more of a project charter / epic-style document that presents what we want to achieve and seeks consensus within the community. So, a collaborative document that's easy to update should do the work. What's important for me is that

  • The community can edit and comment easily.
  • Contributors can vote or show support/interest for the proposal.
  • It is easy to browse existing goalpost.

My initial thought was to create a new section in the forum and have one wiki post per proposition. The post can be based on a template following a project charter format

  • What the feature is about
  • Potential implementation (there could be more than one listed as we weight our options)
  • What do we need to make it happen
  • Who is interested in participating (volunteer, collaboration, funding).
  • Related conversation (forum, mailing list) and issues
