Organizing Community Calls / BarCamp 2026 Discussion
The group discussed the opportunity to resume regular community calls. Based on previous experience, these calls tend to be more successful when they are well-advertised and structured, rather than run as informal “office hours.”
At the same time, given the current budget constraints, it is unlikely that an in-person event will be organized this year. Last year, several BarCamps participants highlighted the importance of sharing the schedule well in advance to allow attendees to plan accordingly. The previously unstructured format, with details published at the last minute, made participation difficult for some community members (see September 18, 2025 Advisory Committee).
The group proposed replacing the BarCamp format with a series of structured monthly community calls centered on clearly defined topics (e.g., specific project milestones, ongoing forum discussions, follow-ups from successful past BarCamp sessions, or invited guest speakers), rather than organizing a week-long event.
It was suggested that the organization of this series would be led by Martin as part of his paid role.
Martin's contract renewal
The group continued last week's discussion of Martin's contract renewal, specifically duration, title, and scope.
