Discussion
BarCamp
- 16 registrations so far
- Need to start outreach by email
- Idea for session
- Train the trainer tip exchange
- Wikimedia group futur see June 12 conversation
- Rory wants to organize a developer-centric session
- Martin to do outreach to get contributors so they can do a demo of community-specific workflows.
Wikimedia group
Related to Creating an OpenRefine Wikimedia Group
- Esther to consolidate the list of members
- Esther to prepare draft application
- Start the conversation by determining who wants to lead the group and then who wants to be involved.
- Jan wants to discuss at the BarCamp the interaction between the Wikimedia group and the rest of the OpenRefine community (see point above regarding the BarCamp session)
Funding
floss.fund
The group reviewed FLOSS.fund Application & 2025 Year-End Giving and agreed on the following changes to be implemented
- Update the donate page with fewer tiers
- Add more high tiers on the donate page
- Update the
funding.json
to match the tier on the donate page (and not the GitHub sponsor page)
The group discussed the opportunity to be present on other platforms, including Patreon, Open Collective, LibraPay, and Ko-Fi. We will continue this conversation next week with CS&S.
Funding Pipeline. Martin updated the funding pipeline and identified
- NGI Zero Commons Fund is accepting application with a deadline of August 1st 2025.
- Pathways to Enable Open-Source Ecosystems (POSE) (September 2 and January 13) to be discussed next week with CS&S.
- When looking for funding opportunities within the open science space, most funders are backing specific projects rather than providing general project support, as CZI did. Currently, the best proposal we have in this space is Discussion: How OpenRefine Can Support Federated Data Repositories for Open Science?. The group discussed the landscape of data repositories for open science. Martin will continue outreach within that industry based on this proposition.
