Governance
The group discussed the draft governance 2024 - Draft Governance Update. Martin already posted an update of the conversation here Improving Transparency: Advisory Committee's Role and Community Involvement - #30 by Martin
Developer hiring
The group discussed the process of hiring a developer for 2025. The role should be for general maintenance without an agenda regarding what features should be added since Antonin would complete the reproducibility.
The group raised the following questions:
- How do we engage with other active developers working on OpenRefine? Martin will create a dedicated thread on the forum
- How is the new person onboarded in the project? Does he/she go through the voting process to get maintainer access?
The conversation moved back to governance, and the group discussed how we get consensus regarding new feature development for future grants. The group discussed that different parties of the communities move at a different pace. This may create tension when it takes time to get to a consensus within the community and we have paid role supported by a grant with a due date and a cash runway to manage. The group suggested to add to the governance document that each grant application is approved by the Advisory Committee with a community consensus.
