Discussions

Funding - Research Software Maintenance Fund

KEW confirmed that they can be the lead for this application. Martin meets with them tomorrow to discuss next steps. The LOI is due May 30.

The group reviewed the current draft and added comments and suggestions directly in the document.

Building a dataset of OpenRefine citations

Martin said that having access to a dataset of academic citations mentioning OpenRefine is useful for grant applications like the Research Software Maintenance Fund. It will help if one can filter the information by country, domain, or research output.

Julie has already built a similar dataset for another project and will investigate how we can build this one.

Funding: The Neuro – Irv and Helga Cooper Foundation Open Science Prizes

Martin identified the The Neuro – Irv and Helga Cooper Foundation Open Science Prizes as a potential funding source. He will check with his contact at McGill University if it makes sense for OpenRefine to apply.

Wikimedia Group and Conference

Esther identified the Wikiconference North America in New York October 16–19, 2025, and asked if someone from OpenRefine should be present. It is also a good opportunity for Rory to meet other users and to present the OpenRefine Wikimedians User Group

Enjoyed reading through the draft of the Research Software Maintenance Fund proposal. FYI, if it helps, in one custom Docker image I did for someone, I hacked and exposed a Java JVM option variable for the OpenRefine workspace path so that it could use the volume option for Docker cmd line., allowing easy changing of the OpenRefine workspace path by changing the Docker volume via its --mount cmd line option.

Regarding the dataset, I realized there may already be a great start in Wikidata, and well visualized on Scholia.
