Martin Contract Renewal

Martin contract ends Dec 31, 2024. It will be best to renew it by the end of November.

  • Martin is interested.
  • Martin expects a decrease in the number of hours required to do the project manager’s job after the current tasks (governance, contributor pathways) are done
  • Predicts that a community manager would better suit the needs of OpenRefine, rather than a project manager. We have an example of needs for a community manager in this conversation.
  • Martin doesn’t feel like community manager is within his expertise - perhaps a new hire would be a better fit for the role

To do:

  • Through November - discuss the basis for the renewal (how many hours per week) + bar camp 2025
  • Martin to present recommendations to the Advisory Committee.

Developer Hiring

Draft posting in PR #395. During the call, the group also made suggestions directly to the PR.

Discussion regarding the repositing structure: Who that person will report

  • If to the Advisory Committee:
    • The Advisory Committee is not one person, which makes it harder to report to.
    • The person needs to “manage up” by coming up with a solution for the AC to approve. He/she needs to be very independent and self-managed.
  • If to the project manager:
    • What happens if the person reports to the project manager and this position no longer exists?
    • Does the project manager become a manager for direct reports? Would the project have more staff to manage?
    • Is it something we want to add to the project manager role?
  • Who the hire reports to will depend on their level of confidence in self-management and whether they need more supervision and handholding.

Work env.

  • We want to make it clearer that the person needs autonomy and technical supervision is not done by the AC.
  • Weekly report to the AC are not here to provide direction to the hired. The driver is the hired, not the AC.

Antonin offboarding the AC

Antonin off-boarding the AC before March 2025 to be discussed in the coming weeks.

Apple Certificate

Apple Certificate should be available by end of the week. Antonin to coordinate with Linda on how to accept the TOS.
