OpenRefine Wikimedians User Group
Related conversation: Creating an OpenRefine Wikimedia Group
Martin and Esther identified a potential candidate from the list of interested individuals for Esther to contact as a second point of engagement. Jan joined the conversation toward the end.
We then discussed the purpose of the group, which could include (as defined in the 2024 Wikimedia Foundation application):
- Providing support to Wikimedians using OpenRefine through various channels including the forum and telegram
- Helping to triage and scope bug reports and feature requests in the OpenRefine GitHub repositories
- Maintaining the Wikimedia Commons courses on Wikilearn
- Overseeing the integration between OpenRefine and the Wikimedia platform from a technical perspective
Ultimately, we acknowledge that:
- The OpenRefine Wikimedians User Group is responsible for self-organizing and determining its own goals and funding priorities.
- If the group secures funding to achieve its identified tasks, we have not yet discussed how it will manage any funds received, whether through OpenRefine, CS&S, or another organization.
BarCamp 2025
We reviewed the answer on the forum, and Martin will propose a new set of dates for the week only between September 8 and 12.
Fundraising
Martin presented his progress to the Advisory Committee. The details are available here Funding Opportunities - Q2 2025 - #2 by Martin
Advisory Committee Recruitment
The Advisory Committee has three members. Currently, we want to focus on the Wikimedia user group to avoid distractions.
Additionally, Martin will add "Open" and "Closed" statuses to the titles of each blog post to clearly indicate each position's current status.
