Discussions
Varia
- CS&S notified us that OpenRefine received a USD2,500 donation on December 30. Martin will follow up with the donor with a thank you note.
- The group reviewed Martin's new contract and approved it. It will go for signature later this week.
Developer Hiring
- Martin shared an update on the process with 24 candidates, 4 interviewed and 13 to review.
- Martin invited Advisory Committee members to review recent candidates.
- Martin shared his concern that the technical assessment for the selected candidate is lagging. We would like to have a review by January 15 to keep the candidates engaged. Martin will contact other technical contributors as a backup plan if Tom is unavailable.
Financial
CS&S will release its December financial statement on January 15. Martin will prepare the final report for 2023 Wikimedia Foundation and 2021 EOSS-Diversity once they are available.
Barcamp
Following the conversation on December 12, 2024, Advisory Committee only, the Advisory Committee will publish a forum message to gather community feedback.
Advisory Committee Recruitment
- Esther has calls scheduled with folks who were interested based on the survey. Do we want to recruit outside of that?
- Martin pointed out last month's conversation regarding the representation of the community in the advisory committee. We should open the call to the public and engage with the developers working on the project.
Fundraising status
- Martin has a meeting today with LJ to review the pipeline.
- Martin will re-engage with Wikimedia regarding the contract opportunity.
- During the Wikibase Stakeholder group, https://futo.org was mentioned as a potential grant source for OpenRefine. Martin will review it.
2025 Year Ahead Blog post
(Conversation without CS&S staff) Jan, Julie, and Martin discussed the 2025 year-ahead blog post content that Arydhia will draft and identified the following topic points.
- We will fundraise to continue to pursue OpenRefine's mission, vision, and values and ensure the project's sustainability based on the core team we previously identified.
- Completing the EOSS-5 grant.
- We will look at the roadmap discussed during the BarCamp to identify a project the community is interested in pursuing. It will be essential to cite those projects as examples, not as a commitment to deliver them in 2025.
- Finally, we can mention the plan for a Barcamp following the community feedback based on the Advisory Committee post (see previous point).
