Introduction of Noël Davey - Director of Finance CS&S
Developer Hiring
Martin provided an update on the process. We are performing technical interviews this week. It is followed by a take-home next week. We will conduct the final interview in the last two weeks of February, and we expect to present an offer by the end of the month
Martin asked CS&S what the best form of the contract would be if the candidate were in the USA. The role is for a permanent position, about 20 hours per week, but we only have funding until Oct 2025. CS&S will get back to the Advisory Committee with the difference between contract and employee positions.
Budget Review
- With the 2025 BarCamp being run virtually, we have an extra USD 25,000 to allocate. As discussed with the community, the Advisory Committee wants to prioritize fundraising.
- The OpenRefine team presented their analysis of tasks between a project manager and community manager (see 202412 - Project Manager - Community Manager tasks for reference)
- Danielle advises to wait for the developer hire to be completed before onboarding a new person
- Danielle will follow up with LJ regarding pricing for the fundraising starting package.
Danielle presented an overview of the situation in the USA regarding funding status and changes introduced by the new Federal administration. There is currently no direct impact for OpenRefine. CS&S will continue to monitor and advise.
Fundraising effort
Wikimedia
- Martin presented the status as per last week's conversation (January 30, 2025 - Advisory Call only)
- Esther and Jan want to investigate the option of creating a OpenRefine Wikimedia User Group to become an affiliate.
OTF
- Martin will coordinate with Superbloom to understand OTF's situation and their interest or capacity to fund OpenRefine.
- We need to apply sooner rather than later due to changes in the landscape of US federal funding.
CZI and Sloan
- Martin to send a short follow-up this week.
Other funder to contact, Martin to prepare points for Danielle to present OpenRefine to the following funds during her meeting next week:
