Wikidata schema - new item as value

I created a new item on wikidata that I wanted to use as a value in my wikibase/wikidata schema, but I was unable to use it immediately after creating the item. Even now, 15 hours after creating the item, I am unable to use it (or any newer item) in the schema. Is this a bug or a feature? How long does it usually take before a new item can be used in the schema?
