Discussions

CS&S Dormant Project Status

Martin shared the latest cash flow projection. The managing director role is funded until September 30, 2026. Currently, we only have the OS4LS application open, as our proposal to the OTF was not accepted.

OpenRefine has sufficient remaining funding to cover the Discourse license, which is the only major expense for the next several years.

Since there is no longer secured funding available, we discussed how CS&S's dormant status (see also conversation in March 12, 2026 Advisory Committee) would apply to OpenRefine.

  • The status applies for 12 months (start date for OpenRefine to be determined)
  • OpenRefine needs an annual income of at least USD 25,000 to exit the dormant status
  • During that 12-month period, OpenRefine will continue to be able to use CS&S resources for fundraising activities (consultant and staff) and the Ramp account (with the associated credit card for Discourse license) as long as there is sufficient funding.
  • Meeting cadence with CS&S will move to quarterly, with ad hoc meetings possible when necessary.
  • The dormant status can be reassessed and reconducted after 12 months.

Partnership with Superbloom

Earlier this month, Superbloom indicated that we may be eligible for OTF User Experience & Discovery Lab programs. - see also Partnership opportunity with Superbloom via the OTF

The AC and Martin believe this project should be conducted after the 2026 survey is completed, as it will provide updated data regarding the community's needs. Martin will coordinate with them later in August to discuss the opportunity, keeping in mind that we will have limited staff support next month.

Apple Certificate

  • The Core Dev Team encountered an issue with notarizing a snapshot release with Apple.
  • Linda and I reviewed the Apple account setup, and it is in good standing.
  • Martin now has access to the account as an "app manager."
  • Linda is the account owner and will escalate the matter with the CS&S IT team to help troubleshoot.

Actually, that run failed for a different reason. You can see the Apple account error here:
https://github.com/OpenRefine/OpenRefine/actions/runs/31030492260/job/92389662952#step:12:2527
but the Mac snapshot builds have been failing for months
e.g. https://github.com/OpenRefine/OpenRefine/actions/runs/25759644705/job/75657172500#step:12:2516
Github deletes logs after three months, so it's hard to say exactly when the problem started, but it was after I built 3.10.1 on Mar 5 and before early May when the logs end.

  • Linda is the account owner and will escalate the matter with the CS&S IT team to help troubleshoot.

She did this on Wednesday and I'm currently waiting to hear back from them.
