Discussion
Performance review
CS&S is offering Performance Review Training on the following two dates:
- Mon 2024-12-09 12pm - 1pm (EST)
- Thu 2024-12-05 10am - 11am (EST)
Martin, Julie, and Jan will attend.
Martin's performance review is to be scheduled for the week of December 9.
WMF Funding
Instead of getting a grant from WMF (as the grant application has been declined), there could be other ways to get support from WMF. WMF could contract OpenRefine (as CS&S) to carry out maintenance tasks.
Martin shows two possible directions:
- WMF continues to support WMSE to contribute to OpenRefine
- WMF contracts OpenRefine to do the maintenance
Next Steps:
- Martin will work with Liam to explore both options.
- Martin to discuss with WMSE.
Hiring
Now Hiring: OpenRefine Developer & Contributor Engagement
The job posting has been published but has not been advertised yet (Martin will take care of it, and Julie will post it on Mastodon). Tom and Thad will help to review the candidates.
Social media platforms
We could reconsider which social media platforms to be present on; this could be discussed on the forum.
Year-end impact blog post
Martin has been working with LJ on fundraising, and as part of that, there was the suggestion of a year-end outreach campaign. The campaign will include a blog post in December celebrating the year's achievements (similar to an impact report) and one in early January outlining what we want to achieve in the new year. LJ and Martin believe this material would be useful when reaching out to potential funders in 2025.
Before publishing the year-in-review post, Martin wants to update the Mission Vision Values and the survey results. Due to the short timeline, he needs help writing this impact post and contracted Sheila from Arydhia (formely with Bocoup) to do this. A fundraising round targeting users is not on the cards, although Julie thinks it could actually work in the future.
WMSE work
One train-the-trainers webinar was held about the Commons integration and has been recorded (with Martin and Alicia). The webinar presents the 3.9 upcoming changes. The next occurrence of the webinar should hopefully make for an even better video, which could be released on the occasion of the 3.9 release.
There were requests to do such videos for all releases and make it openly accessible, which should be possible (this is the first iteration). WMSE is aware of Sunil Natraj’s amazing work and intends to engage with it.
Resuming the community calls
Martin plans to resume the community calls. He will post a meeting time on the forum.
Antonin leaving the advisory committee
Antonin hereby leaves the advisory committee and will open the corresponding pull request.
